About

ASCE’s International Conferences on Sustainable Infrastructure will take place in Los Angeles from November 7–9, 2019. This gathering of civil engineers, infrastructure managers, architects, policy makers, technology experts, and related professionals will provide a showcase for the latest developments and advancements in design, construction, technology, policy and education related to sustainable and resilient infrastructure and offers a forum to discuss and debate future directions for the 21st century.

Conference topics, focusing on sustainable cities for an uncertain world, cover a broad array of contemporary issues for professionals involved in the development of sustainable infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to meet like-minded colleagues from all over the world for technical, scientific, and educational discussions about sustainable infrastructure. Structured to foster interactive discussion, the conference will feature a keynote by a Los Angeles based international luminary as well as over half a dozen case studies and workshops focusing on recent innovations and achievements from cities around the U.S. and the world. Concurrent seminars will be organized in tracks including:

  • Society and Urbanization
  • Finance and Management
  • Practice and Policy

Crosscutting themes will include:

  • Resiliency and Disaster Recovery
  • Disruptive Technologies and Practices
  • Education
  • Workforce Development
  • Outreach
  • Diversity
  • Climate Change
  • Extreme Events

Given the global implications of burgeoning urbanization and the stewardship of existing and new public infrastructure, ICSI 2019 will focus on what is known and what is not known about the cities of the future.

Mark Norton, Conference ChairA Message From The Conference Chair:

On behalf of the entire team of organizers for the 2019 International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure, we invite you to one of the most exciting international hubs of commerce, development and infrastructure growth in the world, Los Angeles, CA. Our venue and program has been carefully planned to help expand attendees’ horizons and understanding of sustainable and resilient infrastructure. Our intended audience are not just the civil engineers but our partners to engineers such as practitioners, owners, construction managers, financial experts, technology developers and government decision makers who work together to create better more integrated multi-beneficial projects. Recognizing the changes and challenges that we face moving through the 21st Century, program topics will include on a broad range of cross cutting issues such as resilience and disaster recovery; disruptive technologies and practices; climate change and extreme events; and infrastructure’s social impacts, opportunities and responsibilities. Utilizing case study presentations and workshop discussions as a mechanism to compare notes and share ideas will allow a more intensely interactive format for the International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure 2019. This event will recognize that we are on the cusp of many technological advances such as autonomous vehicles (passenger transportation, smart infrastructure) and large-scale 3-D printing (freight transportation and construction/erection) which will have MAJOR impacts on infrastructure, and sustainability considerations and opportunities. Further, major metropolitan urban centers across the globe are dealing with issues such as homelessness, commuting disconnects and overburdened infrastructure that relate to topics such as social equity, strategic community engagement and empowerment which also must be addressed. We look forward to your support in submitting papers and abstracts as we come together to address these important sustainability issues.
